My research interest is to design and evaluate psychosocial and supportive care services for cancer patients to improve their quality of life and health outcomes. Currently, I am leading two projects using deep learning-based natural language processing algorithms (artificial intelligence) to assist therapists in online support groups to track participant progress in real-time, and to provide Chatbot solution of automated self-care support at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre (e.g., recommending strategies for symptom management) tailored to the patient needs. My latest project focuses on developing an inclusive algorithm by collecting conversational data from people from different cultural backgrounds in order to train the algorithm to understand different languages and diverse ways of expressing distress.
