My name is Dr. Mohammed Al-Omran, Chief of Vascular Surgery at St. Michael’s Hospital and Full Professor at the University of Toronto. I am a surgeon-scientist with a strong interest in machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and health outcomes research using large databases.

I am attracted to T-CAIREM because it provides exceptional infrastructure and culture for collaboration between data scientists and clinicians. I believe T-CAIREM will bring together the necessary stakeholders for AI to truly improve patient care, and I hope to be part of this community.

The strengths I will bring to the T-CAIREM community are the following: 1) I have a strong history of supervising trainees at all levels, including undergraduate students, medical students, residents, fellows, and graduate students, 2) I have published in high-impact journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Circulation, and Journal of Vascular Surgery, 3) I have formed strong collaborations with clinicians and researchers including Dr. Muhammad Mamdani with whom I have co-supervised several students, and 4) I have a strong interest in working with multidisciplinary teams to bring ML/AI into routine clinical practice to improve patient outcomes.
