Karim is a tenured faculty member and Canada Research Chair in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto. He has received numerous awards, including the Canada Governor General Gold Medal in the Sciences, Maud-Menten New Investigator Prize, Lap-Chee Tsui Prize, and Ontario Early Researcher Award. Karim moved to Toronto after completing his postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Karim combines cell biology, genetics, aerospace science, mechanical engineering, and AI to resolve complex relationships between genome organization, expression, and stability.
