Idir Mellal received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Quebec in Outaouais, Quebec, Canada, in 2018. He started his first Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Ottawa in Canada in 2018. Since March 2019, he is a PDF at the University of Toronto, and Krembil Research Institute, Ontario, Canada.

His primary interest is building an effective and robust neuromorphic platform for neurocomputing and accelerating AI models. His secondary research area is related to designing robust and user-friendly wearable systems for health monitoring using textile sensors, Printed and Flexible Circuits (PFC) and other types of sensors.

Currently, he is working on a project at Krembil Research Institute for building a digital neuromorphic platform mimicking biological neurons. Idir Mellal has a long experience in Hardware Implementation and Digital Design.
