Anne Martel is a Senior Scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute, Toronto, a Professor in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto, and a Vector Faculty Affiliate. Her research program is focused on the development of advanced machine learning methods for medical image analysis and digital pathology. In particular, her group is developing machine learning algorithms for detection, diagnosis and prediction in cancer.  She has more than 20 years of experience in developing research software and in 2006 she co-founded Pathcore, a digital pathology software company.

Dr Martel is a very active member of the medical image analysis community and is a fellow and former board member of the MICCAI (Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Interventions) Society. She is a member of the External Advisory Board for the Imaging Data Commons - a cloud-based resource within NIH-NCI Cancer Research Data Commons that connects researchers with cancer imaging datasets and resources for exploring those datasets. Dr Martel is also a member of the Researcher Council of NDRIO (New Digital Research Infrastructure Organization), which is working to develop a national strategy for advanced research computing, research data management and research software.
