Allan Kember
MD
I was born in Prince Edward Island into a family of six children. Growing up, I spent countless hours at my dad’s auto-body shop playing with and working on anything that had an engine. This developed into a love for problem solving and eventually led to a degree in mechanical engineering. After working professionally as an engineer in medical device R&D, I completed medical school at Dalhousie University and am currently a senior resident obstetrics & gynaecology at UofT.
My research interest is at the intersection of sleep and pregnancy. Since 2013, my collaborators and I have been investigating the impact of maternal sleeping position in late pregnancy on pregnancy outcomes and have established a successful track record in planning, executing, and publishing clinical studies in the pregnant population.
I am an inventor and entrepreneur and founded Shiphrah Biomedical Inc. in 2019, a medical device startup dedicated to challenging the status quo in women’s health through the combination of science, engineering, and innovation. In 2021, I was accepted into the Clinician-Investigator Program at the University of Toronto and will embark on advanced training in health services artificial intelligence in the Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation in July.
