About the Speaker
Dr. Stephanie Garies is a CIHR Health System Impact Postdoctoral Fellow embedded in the St. Michael’s Hospital Family Health Team (FHT), supervised by Dr. Andrew Pinto and Dr. Karen Weyman. Her postdoc work aims to explore the use of artificial intelligence methods to derive information about patients’ social determinants of health from their electronic medical record (EMR). She will be working with the FHT to co-design a way to present this information in a meaningful and actionable way.
Over the last decade, Dr. Garies has been involved with the Southern Alberta Primary Care Research Network (SAPCReN) at the University of Calgary and the Canadian Primary Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) to advance primary health care research and disease surveillance using EMR data. She received her PhD in Epidemiology at the University of Calgary (2020) and her Master’s in Public Health at the University of Warwick, UK (2010).
