Artificial Intelligence researcher Bo Wang announced as inaugural Temerty Professor in AI Research and Education in Medicine

TORONTO — The Temerty Centre for AI Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM)at the University of Toronto’s Temerty Faculty of Medicine is pleased to announce Professor Bo Wang as the inaugural Temerty Professor in AI Research and Education in Medicine.

 “I’m honoured to be awarded this professorship,” says Prof. Wang. “T-CAIREM has already established itself as an exciting collaborative hub, and I’m looking forward to participating in all of T-CAIREM’s activities to advance education and research for the next generation of Artificial Intelligence in medicine researchers.”

As the Temerty Professor in AI Research and Education in Medicine, Prof. Wang will work with T-CAIREM leadership to advance the field of AI in medicine and promote collaborations among clinicians and data scientists. He will also, publish cutting-edge research, secure research funding, present at international conferences and mentor students in the field of AI in medicine.

“We’re delighted to award Dr. Wang the first Temerty Professorship in AI Research and Education in Medicine,” says T-CAIREM Director Muhammad Mamdani. “He’s already established himself internationally through his innovative work in applied machine learning and holds several positions including Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and Lead Scientist of the Artificial Intelligence Team for Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at University Health Network. His background in machine learning and computational biology will be an incredible asset to the T-CAIREM community.”

ABOUT DR. BO WANG
Dr. Wang obtained his PhD from Stanford University’s Department of Computer Science and has extensive industrial research experience at leading companies such as Illumina and Genentech. His PhD work covers machine learning algorithms for solving problems in computational biology with an emphasis on integrative cancer analysis and single-cell analysis. Dr. Wang is also a faculty member at the Vector Institute and holds a Canadian CIFAR AI Chair.
