AI in Healthcare Bootcamp for High School Students
T-CAIREM's AI in Healthcare Bootcamp for High School Students helps future doctors, nurses, and coders learn how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing healthcare. Through hands-on workshops and mentorship from University of Toronto PhD candidates, participants will develop AI health projects alongside their peers. (And don't worry, there will be plenty of time to make new friends!)
Students will receive a Certificate of Completion for attending T-CAIREM's AI in Medicine for High School Students Bootcamp and presenting their final group project to their peers and instructors. The bootcamp will also give participants a chance to learn directly from experts in the field.

Program Highlights
During the week, participants will learn the basics of artificial intelligence and get a solid introduction to the Python programming language. In addition, they will learn how machine learning models are developed and how to properly evaluate them in a healthcare setting. Young learners will also be introduced to concepts such as bias and ethics of machine learning development and deployment. The weeklong workshops culminate in a project showcase on the final day of the bootcamp, where students will present their group projects and receive their certificates.
Fees
• This varies depending on whether students participate in person at the University of Toronto's downtown campus or virtually.
• Course fees can be found on the Eventbrite registration page for the next available bootcamp.
• Application fees are non-refundable.
FAQs
Can students in grade nine take the course, too?
Students who have completed grade 9 by the time the bootcamp starts and are entering grade 10 are also eligible to apply.
I'd like to attend the bootcamp, but I'm not available on one of the course dates. Is there a video recording so I can catch up on what I miss?
Please register only if you can attend the full week of the bootcamp. Since each bootcamp session is tailored to the specific needs of each cohort, we do not record the course material.
Is the course fee refundable?
Once registered, no refunds will be issued.
Are meals provided?
Meals and snacks will not be provided as part of the bootcamp. Students are encouraged to bring their own lunch and any snacks they may need throughout the day. There is also a small on-campus food court for students who wish to purchase food during breaks.
Is any financial assistance available?
A limited number of bursaries are available for students requiring financial assistance. For more information, please contact t.cairem@utoronto.ca.
Applying to the Bootcamp
After completing payment, you will be asked to answer a short set of registration questions. These questions are intended to be completed by the student, as they relate directly to the bootcamp experience and require thoughtful reflection. Because these questions appear immediately after checkout and must be completed at that time, we kindly recommend that the student be present during registration, or that you review the questions in advance so they can provide their responses. To help you prepare, the student will be asked to answer the following questions after checkout:
- Why do you want to participate in this AI bootcamp? (Max. 100 words)
- What do you want to learn from this bootcamp? (Max. 100 words)
- How would this program help with your goals after high school? (Max. 100 words)
- Please describe any coding experience you might have. (Don't worry--coding experience isn’t necessary to attend!) (Max. 100 words)
- By registering your child, you are consenting to allow T-CAIREM at the University of Toronto's Temerty Faculty of Medicine to take photographs and video recordings for promotional purposes. Some promotional materials may appear on social media, in print publications, and in other forms of mass media. If you do not consent, please do not register.
- OPTIONAL: We aim to have a diverse group of grade 10 to 12 students from all walks of life. Please let us know if there's any other information you'd like the bootcamp application review committee to know about you. Sharing this information is entirely optional. All information will be held in the strictest confidence and only used for its intended purpose. (Max. 100 words)
